It is nearly morning and I am just back at the hotel, after having seen the very first (complete) preview of the TV2 documentary about the Niger “famine” in 2005. I really liked it (what a complex piece of work!) and it will be interesting to see how people respond to it. Mostly when we hear about Africa, it is all dark and depressing, but this documentary wasn’t like that. It told a different story and the people of Niger got to speak their piece, something I really really appreciated!

While there, we got the tour of the TV2 workshop - and for someone like myself who just arrived from little Niger, it was a whole different world…

So many rooms-

So many spotlights and cameras!

What a far cry from the world I come from, where the world is simple and poor in material wealth and technology-

…but rich is colors and joy.

I wish I could take part of Niger with me everywhere I went. A bit of the sky, the people, the laughter and the slow-slow pace that I have such a hard time dealing with every time I come back from Western civilization, but which I miss so much when I leave. I wish I could take a little bit of all the things I hold so dearly in my life and bring them with me wherever I go, including my time with my mother. Unfortunately, I can’t do that, but I can assemble all those treasures in my heart, and I when I do that, it never ceases to amaze me how beautifully blessed I am.
