I just came back to work after spending 36 hours home with a 39 degree fever. Anette called to check on me, since she had noticed that I hadn’t blogged anything so far (and the trend lately has been to blog once a day…). I told her that I tried to blog a post yesterday about the perks of being sick, to which she asked: “And what would the perks be with that?!”

Exactly! There is only one perk with being sick as I see it. When I woke up yesterday morning, I wasn’t all that thrilled about a sore throat and a rising fever, but the first thought that came in mind was a reminder of how many days I have actually been healthy lately! Which I am really thankful for, for during the years after my riding accident in January 2006, I can no longer take any physical strength for granted and every time I overdo things, I end up vomiting from a virus in the weekends. So being sick once in a while makes you take things less for granted, and as you lie there in your couch all day waiting to get better, the quicker you stress down, the faster you’ll be able to be up and running again. But the whole point is not to overdo things and to rush from one high to another, which we all too often end up doing.

The good news is that the ordeal seems to be over for this time. Although my fingers are itching to get back to my numerous projects, I will go home, spend a quiet evening lying down somewhere (probably inside as there seem to be a dust storm on its way) and gather as much strength as possible for tomorrow. I will not leave you empty handed though, but will end this post with my favorite picture of the our visit to the market on Sunday: an old man by the horse item department who insisted that I give him money to tend to his sickness (he did not specify which), but ended up settling for my friendship instead.
