For those of you who are tempted to enjoy the authenticity of Zinder but who could not settle for a volunteer standard, I have found the perfect place for you! Halima, a friend of a friend of mine, just recently opened a new guest house, which is practically situated only a block away from Ishtar’s Ark (which is also known as Anette’s and my abode, in case you were wondering…).
My neighbor and I went there last weekend to attend an expat tea party, and insisted on having Halima give us the grand tour.
For being in Niger, the rooms are fabulous and the feel is so… inspirational! There are touches from both the north and the south, merging several of Niger’s varying cultures and adding an intriguing creativity of their own!
I liked the color combination-
…and the badrooms are super fresh!
The pricing is European: the master bedroom comes at approximately €50 per night (breakfast not included)-
(here is the master bedroom bathroom by the way)
The other two rooms go for approximately €45 per night.
Breakfast (which is an additional fee) is served right outside under their peaceful patio (this was were we ended up drinking tea later!).
There are more things to add about the guest house and it’s location, but I thought this would do well for starters. Now, if anyone is looking for the horseback ride of their life (straight into the heart of the Zinderien bush!), let me know!

Well, the pricing is European, but so are the standards. The ambiance however is truly Nigerien!
