Ali called on me this morning, to tell me that a feline had decided to have her litter in our garden. One of the three was already dead and the red one had a wound on his forehead. They were calling for their mother, who was hiding up in a tree, and I asked Ali to look after them during the day. Although I’m a dog person and don’t interact remarkably well with cats, I’m fond of kittens and don’t like any animals dying on home terrain. They’re sealed off from Dennis (their mother thought of that much) but I’m wondering what will happen if they make it through the coming weeks. Anybody interested in a little red&white male or a black&white female…?
I don’t think the red one is going to make it though - he has bite marks on both sides of his forehead and is very weak. And his mother hasn’t been back all day…

Well, the mother, who is wild, came back and moved the dying kitten, so chances are it’s still alive. There still around there, between the sacks of peanut leaves (horse fodder). I hear them at night but leave them be, as chances of them making it are higher if I don’t interfere. Am waiting for them to emerge from the sacks though and start to interact. The mother will have to move them at some point though, because the dog is by no means showing friendly tendencies!
cat care information…
Wow, I’ m so sad with you! I haven’ t had to deal with the loss of a pet yet but I do have 3 cats. One of my cats we got 2 & 1/ 2 years ago from a friend who’ s grandmother passed away. Her name is Sasha. She is 13 years old. In just the few year…
An update on the kittens: I’m pretty sure the little red one died, but the mother moved them out of our garden. A little while later, the boys on the street came walking with the little black kitten, asking if I wanted it. It had been run over by a bike and had blood pouring down half the face. I had to renounce as a fate with our dog Dennis is worst the Zinderien traffic, but a few days ago, she was skipping around outside my gate, one eye covered (don’t know if it’s permanent or not). The kids saw me looking at her, and asked me again if I wanted it. I gave it a try, sat down with Dennis with the kitten in my hand. He sniffed, started licking her and then grabbed hold of her ear - in the exact same way he grabs his meat before he walks away with it and feeds in piece and quiet - and I knew he had every intension of eating the poor thing. Lol, he thought I was serving him a kidden! Our dog is nuts. No harm done with the kitten who was safe in my hand, but she got to continue her life outside of our walls, which I do believe is safer for her than our monstrous guard dog… Some times you just can’t make everything all right!
