So here’s the scenario: We head up 06.30 am (on a Saturday, yes), get the work done before the warmest period of the day sets in (when the air around your feet is so hot that it burns your skin!) and then head back in time for an afternoon ride…
If we’re lucky, the preparations for the coming season will be done by now - if not, we’ll just have to go back soon again.
Good thing we enjoy the excursion, not to mention the scenery!

Well, more than spending time with joyful people, going for long rides in the bush, enjoying a day home with crazy animals, heading to Tanout for an outing in the sun, scouting for tissue at the market and things like that, there’s “nothing” you can do in this wonderful town of mine…

It all depends on whether you see the glass as half full or half empty. Most expats find Zinder boring (and leave accordingly once their time is done) - but some of us fall in love with the place and stay. But to me, it’s not about the place - it’s about building something sustainable, from scratch, that is making a huge impact on the lives of the poorest of the poor. That makes it all worth while, and if I’m ever bored during the weekend, it’s nothing a ride in the bush won’t cure…
