Your pictures made me laugh out loud. I love these kinds of wacky family photos! :-) Love your "Kalle Anka" cap when going to school (what fashion it was!), and your, uh, obviously jealous expression about the Barbie dolls. Thanks for sharing.

@Tauratinzwe: The "ordinary" bananas are ripe when green, and I have this thing about not wanting yellow bananas... Even when I go to Sweden, I want them green around the edges! Haven't had pink bananas since October-December 2007 but I'll make sure to enjoy them when I see them again.

@Karin: Thanks!

@DM: Yup, that is a lot of dust, and let me tell you, there's no less dust in Zinder today twenty years later!! My house looks like that after a bad storm...

AH! The red bananas. I haven't seen any of those since I left Tanzania donkey's years ago. They were so sweet. I never saw them in Zimbabwe or Moçambique.

We had some bananas in Moçambique that stayed green even when ripe. You had to wiggle them and when they got easy to wiggle, they were ready to eat.

My favorite bananas are the short tart ones we call apple bananas in Hawaii.

If you see any red bananas soon, enjoy one for me.
