When I had my Jamaican neighbor over for a ‘famine food’ recipe last week, she thought the Boscia senegalensis was really good, and that it tasted a bit like peas. It was her idea to serve it like a vegetable, so today I had her over for a fabulous-looking new dish, namely the Hanza sallad! For those who don’t know it, ‘hanza’ is the Hausa word for Boscia senegalensis, and is also known as ‘dilo’.
The Hanza Sallad Recipe (2 persons)
Mix the following ingredients:
8 chopped tomatoes
3 dl of solar cooked Hanza beans
1 small paprika
A handful of fresh parsley
A spoonful of garlic mayonnaise
A touch of salt
And voilà, your lunch is ready!
