Having been reminded quite frequently lately of the existence of the Club Privée de Zinder, I finally decided to join again. As it turned out it’s not that expensive for us volunteers, which was good, or I wouldn’t have been able to!
The water was a bit thick and slightly green, but once I slipped into it, I forgot all about it. No further explanation needed to anyone who has or still is experiencing the Nigerien warm season…
When I was there on Wednesday, I was the only soul present except for the bar man, which was very tranquil actually!
It’s a bit run down these days, especially compared to back in the ‘old days’ (when being president at the French club was one of the most sought positions within the expat community…), and so I thought I’d post some images of what it looked like some good 20 years ago:
Aïssa and myself in the middle…
I’ll let you know as soon as the standard is back again, although it might take a while, seeing there are now just about 10% of the members it used to have it the “good old days”. Ah, expat life and expat living - now that’s a category apart! May blog about that some other day…

…and in those days, all the children were debating whether the club in Maradi could actually be better than ours. We were sure that the one from Zinder was best, because hey, what was Maradi compared to Zinder!
Vive Zinder, vive les zinderois! (…unfortunately, we children were wrong…
