Where were you, twenty years ago?
This very day, twenty years ago, I was visiting the field station with my family to see the development of the new mud buildings that Eden was setting up in Dalli, 13 km south of Tanout city.
Although the buildings themselves were nice, the field station did not make that much of an impression on my seven year old mind.
It was mostly sand, sand and sand.
Situated somewhere in the heart of sand.
Twenty years have passed and a few things have changed, as they normally do during the span of two decades. First of all, I am no longer seven years old, nor am I bored by spending the day at Eden’s field station.
But the best thing of all is that the field station is no longer a sea of sand! It proves that with the simplest of methods, you can revegetate some of the most denuded areas in the world - but you can’t do it without the time and patience required.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackWhere was I twenty years ago? 1988 — living in southern Maine, considering resuming my college studies, struggling in a relationship that ultimately disconnected, trying to figure out ‘who am I?’! A major transition time between a decade of living in a spiritual community and a future still unclear to me.
I am now contentedly living the future that was unclear, with clarity and conviction, horses, dance, and laughter — forever a student of life and horses.
Your dedication is admirable, Esther! I enjoy checking to read your blog.
