Life on Eden Street (2008)

I love Niger. I can’t always tell you why, but I just do. It’s a strange place. It’s different from most other places on earth. It lacks tempo and several other Western values that we seem to think of as general virtues these days; but it’s genuine and generous and I love that about it.

Aichatu & Mina (2008)

Having mingled a lot within the expat community lately, I have been reminded yet again that Niger is a place where you can only thrive if you have a heart for the people. No amount of money will make it worth your while unless you thoroughly enjoy what you are doing; and no aid will ever be sustainable unless you do it with a passion and a heart.

I love Niger. I can’t always tell you why, but it adds something special to my life. It isn’t always a dance on roses, but knowing what life is like on the opposite spectrum, I would not want it any other way.
