Remember Maya, Sahara’s younger sister?
Today, our horses got a visitor, a two year old filly from the bush who happened to be none other than Sahara’s younger sister.
January 4th 2008
She was a bit underdeveloped when she came in from the bush (looking more like a foal than a two-year-old filly!), but has been doing a bit of growing since.
Now she lives happily just a block away, with a garden-mate who goes by the name Freya (also a relative of Sahara’s - they’re all from the same tribe).
Maya & Freya - they even look alike these days!
I’ve ridden her a couple of times this season, but she is still rather petite, and so for the time being, we’re just going to let the kids enjoy her and watch her grow. The family that is caring for her is staying in Zinder for another yea. After that, we’ll have to see what the best option for Maya is. She’s a sweet horse, but Anette and I each have our own horse, and I’ve discovered that there is only room for so many favorites in my book these days…
