The ancient Baobab forest in Mirriah is one of those exclusive places where you could just spend days as a professional photographer and enjoy your finds…
First of all, the forest in itself is impressive, regardless of the weather, but then there are all these people going back and forth.
Here a man on horseback, heading out of town.
A caravan of “charettes” heading for the market

A donkey with “millet-protection”
Then a very cool bird appeared. It’s actually one of my favourites, but I am sure my blog readers are better at identifying the correct variety. Jérome, any suggestions?
I found myself a beautiful feather: just imagine what an exclusive old-fashioned pen it would make!
I still have more pictures, but I’ll be saving them for later!

@Karin: Of course I will bring you to the Baobab forest when you come to see me! It’s one of my favourite 10 places in Niger and a must when it comes to showing off the country!
Much obliged to find myself sought out on a matter of Nigerien bird-watching. And, nevertheless, utterly stumped by your query, I first intended posting to admit just that.
But never one to shy away from an internet search when challenged by a fair princess from the Nigerien branch of the illustrious Garvi clan(*), I opted for taking up the gauntlet.
That critter is a Tockus Nasutus.

And here I was, opting for the reb-billed hornbill! Mononoke, you say? That will make a good horse-name suggestion for my lovely little niece who receives a fair princess with a duplo pony from her adoring aunts, and then asks me what the horse should be called… Now I have an answer, next time!

The boabab forest looks magical! Had you not posted pictures of a boabab forest, I would have never known what it looked like. Cool. So many trees and still no grass beneath it! Magical!
