Late Monday afternoon, my father and I drove down to Landskrona to pick up one lovely little Rhodesian Ridgeback lady, who had grown many sizes since we saw her last! (and that wasn’t very long ago!)
This was evident when we tried the first carrier, which was way to small!
This one however fit perfectly! Here are a few more pictures from our visit at RidgeBow’s Kennel:
Sheba “saying goodbye” to her mother Imma and grandmother Cajsa, although she was more concerned with her new surroundings than anything else.
Heading home!
Falling in love with her already…
The first night went great. She’s an independent little lion dog who knows what she wants. She quickly found her way to her new sleeping arrangements and as soon as I turned the lights off, we both fell asleep.
Milla the poodle has been kind enough to lend Sheba all of her toys, but she will not share her food!
After a very intense morning, Sheba fell asleep in her own bed, and I headed off to town for a doctor’s appointment.
When I came back two hours later, I found her asleep in my father’s lap, who was not the only one who’s been pampering with her since her arrival!
We’ve had a hectic day, filled with action, with lots of play in the outside, lots of play in the inside, a lot of training and coaxing (yes, no, good dog! great dog! fabulous dog! etc) and a lot of eating too (especially if one includes “hunting for food” as a food-eating activity)!
Whenever things calm down however, she just drops down on her bed besides me and sleeps away all of that extra time. You know boring human time: blogging, facebooking, emailing etc. Computer time. Nope, that time is way better spent sleeping by my side! Or so she thinks!
I am utterly convinced that this little Lion Queen will make a fabulous addition to Ishtar’s Ark, so stay tuned for more Sheba stories and pictures in the near future!

You have a very interesting blog and i really enjoy it, but your photos of Sheba grabbed my heart. What a great face she has! And those eyes…
I’m jealous.
In Moçambique we had a dog whose mother was labrador/dalmatian and the father was ridgeback/mastiff. She was HUGE and gentle with a great ridge on her back. I’d love to get another ridgeback.
Enjoy Sheba!
Oh so nice to see these pics since we also have our little puppy here - we also have a busy day with him so much to do when you have a baby in the house.
@Lori: Thanks! I’ll be flying to Kano (Nigeria) on Monday and will hopefully arrive at destination (Zinder) on Tuesday!
@Mtn Rider: I’m so glad you dropped by! There truly is something precious about Sheba! I don’t know if it’s her as an individual or the whole breed that is just simply amazing (I think both!) but although we’ve only been together for a few days, I’ve already fallen in love with her!
@Tauratinzwe: Wow, a ridge with just 25% of Rhodesian blood! That’s great! I have to say, after half a week with little Sheba, I don’t think there can be a better breed in the entire world! But then I’ve always loved a reserved, courageous and generally happy dog. And this one loves to play!
@Szavanna: What kind of puppy do you have? You must send me a picture!
Cutest puppy ever! OMG. My maternal instincts are kicking in….want a puppy!
@Photogchic: They’re time consuming but oh what a blessing!!!
Foals are really cute, but there is just something special about puppies! She is truly a doll.

She looks like she’s made of brown velvet with dark chocolate ear tips and muzzle and loving brown eyes. What a sweet looking dog!
