Just wanted to tell you that we arrived safe and sound in Zinder last night! After five hours of sleep (Sheba is a busy dog, and was thrilled so have Anette and I sleep on the veranda with her so she could try to jump on our mattresses!), I am slightly disoriented but almost as full of impresions as my tough little Lion Dog who thinks Nigerien sand is the coolest thing! She did so well on the flight, slept all the way from Amsterdam to Abuja. It wasn’t easy getting her onboard as she weight 2kg more than maximum weight allowed on board (yet was too young to travel below - which would have been a dreadful experience) but KLM made an exception and except for every authority saying “You will have to leave her here, she is just way too cute!” we encountered no problems whatsoever. It was such a blessing! I’ll talk more soon!

I too am glad you and Sheba made it safely to Niger! Did you give Sheba any kind of mild sedative for the trip, or is she too young to handle that? She looks like she loves her new environment.
You look stunning - you’re obviously feeling “in your element”, as they say…I can’t remember if I already did (I’ll check) but I’d like to write a post and include a link to this blog - is that OK with you..?
Meanwhile, enjoy your reunion with your filly + others..:)

Yeah! Welcome home Ishtar!
I am glad you are back safe and sound…! And Sheba is sooooooo adorable..!
Yea! Glad you’re home safe and sound!. You look happy. Rest up, as I Sheba appears ready to explore her new country! Has she seen your horses?
@Lori: Prior to departure, I spent nearly 24 hours a day with Sheba so that the bond would be as strong as possible. Once we were on our way, I made sure to stimulate her as much as possible in between the flights. Once on board, she settled at our feet and slept the whole six hour long journey from Amsterdam to Kano, which was a HUGE blessing, as she wasn’t permitted out of her carrier.
@Pat: No, we didn’t give her anything (except lots of love). I just made sure to stimulate her as much as I could between the flights.
@India: Feel free to link to us!
@Niger & Photogchic: Thanks!
@Childwoman: Yes, isn’t she a darling!! I’m so grateful for her!
@Fe: It took Sheba a few days before she started to pay the horses any notice. The only problem now is that she isn’t the least afraid of them and wants to bite their tails. So far, they’ve been very patient creatures, but I wouldn’t try them all that much…
