Of our latest additions at Ishtar’s Ark, Allis is without doubt the more subtle of the three.
She’s such a sweet little character, who managed to inherit the best of her two parents: her mother’s elegant shape and proud nature, together with the blackness of her father (without his distinctive white spots!).
Although some of us would love for our babies to stay small and petite for ever (I’m not mentioning any names here…), the good thing about Allis growing is that we don’t have to worry so much about Dennis eating her up.
He still tries, from time to time, but as soon as her mother Esmeralda realizes that her daughter is in any form of danger, the impressive doe turns around and that’s the end of story. These days, Allis is so bold that she’ll even run in circles around Dennis, hoping to get him all mad and exited. Which is exactly what happens, unless Anette and I are there to point a finger at him (and sometimes even despite our presence…). Allis however has it all figured out by now, and once she’s set him off, she runs for cover, knowing that as soon as she reaches “safe ground”, she can turn around and “charge” Dennis together with her mother. Lol!
As for our little Rhodesian Ridgeback princess Sheba, she will play with Allis (nicely) in the garden, but avoids all form of communication when Allis is allowed up on the veranda.
Sometimes Allis runs in circles around her, but Sheba just sighs heavily as wise dogs always do and awaits the time when the veranda will be all hers again, and she won’t have to share her human’s attention with a… goat.
But share our attention, she must - because even though Allis will be growing out of our arms soon, she’s such a little sweetheart and we just can’t help ourselves!
She’s a very photogenic little one too, especially in that sparkling pink collar!
Here she is in the arms of her breeder, and I must say, Allis is turning into one of the most beautiful does I have seen in Niger.
Our reason (or should I say excuse?) for bringing her up on the veranda this time was to weigh her. Although less than half of Sheba, she now weighs 8kg /44lb. My, someone’s been growing!
Her horns are coming out and Anette and I are eagerly awaiting to see if she will have her mother’s slim, elegant but oh so sharp horns (with a little twist at the end), or her father’s thick and sturdy ones, that curled to form two thick and long spirals.
Personally, I don’t think I’ll mind which, but Anette is hoping Allis will yet again be taking after her adorable mother.
Without the diva-part of course, but seeing that spot is already taken, can Allis really become anything but sweet and gentle and utterly gorgeous??

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackShe is a delicate little thing! And I can see that she would be a monkey, teasing the dogs that way!
Thanks for sharing her story!
Allis looks real tame and gentle. The full black on her looks really beautiful and some how elegant
So cute Ishtar…you always manage to find the cutest animals.
What a sweet baby. I love all the ark animals. Your parrot story especially touched my heart.
awwww, cute little face
she is indeed adorable
O I love this post with all the comments and pictures! Allis is a stunner! I can’t believe how you can cuddle her like that and she seems to love it!
What a gorgeous goat! I’ll never look at them in the same way again. Really sweet. And what a pretty collar!!
Three lovely girls! Allis sounds like quite a character.
She is turning into a real beauty and that pink collar is perfect on her. There is nothing cuter than a baby goat…unless it is a baby horse.
HRH Princess Allis is a real beauty! Love the collar too. I think someone is spoiled…
Allis is so cute AND beautiful. Goats have to be the jokesters of the animal world. They just love getting another animals “goat” up!
Oh boy, now I’m in trouble - when my daughter sees these photos, we’re going to start the “Mommy, we need a goat!” song again. She’s darling and I do want one, but I’ve already got my hands full. I love the pink collar. How do the goats and the horses get along?
@Judy: You’re welcome!
@Napboaniya: She is a very gentle goat, and so far, she loves to be pampered with! Of course, there are lots of us willing to oblige…
@Photogchic: Hee hee
I think we were lucky with Allis, getting the best of everything! In fact, we’ve been lucky with all our additions this year, they’re all so cute!!
@Loran: Thanks!
@O: I won’t disagree!
@Gemma: She does love being cuddle. We hope it’ll last! Her mother did too, until she realized what it meant to be “taken back to the pen”. Their pen is large - by Nigerien standard! - but Esmeralda is spoiled rotten and has long forgotten the lives of an ordinary Nigerien goat… She’d like to be free ranging in our garden and eat all our plants, as well as the horse feed, if only she could. So we take out the goats when we can supervise them, less there’s nothing left afterward…
They both love a good play (even Esmeradla can go nuts out of pure joy and do stunts in the air, scaring off the dogs hee hee) and we love enjoying them so much!
@Pat: Thanks! I’m so glad Allis didn’t take after her father
@Goatgirl: They’re both cute! A little less when they grow into teenagers, but it’s a brief moment!
@Gerri: I think that both HRH Princess Allis, HRH Princess Sheba and HRH Princess Isolde are fairly spoiled - but what is one to do when these little ones possess such wonderful charm???
@Allis: I love how her self-confidence goes! She’s such a little character, both funny, bold and beautiful!
@Victoria: At some point, you guys are going to get yourself the perfect little goat (get a female!!!), dress her up in a pink collar (or any other, if that would suit her better) and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! Good things are worth waiting for, and there’s no point getting an animal (especially one that you’re supposed to enjoy while it grows) if you don’t have the time to enjoy them.
In the beginning, the horses weren’t too keen on the goats stealing their food (they still aren’t) and so their shake their heads at them, and the goats listen. Sometimes Isolde likes to play chase with them, but Allis doesn’t mind a bit, she thinks it’s sooo funny! Apart from that, they all integrate really well. We even have a stallion staying over for a month (Paige’s horse Illami) and when we’re home, we let him stay with the goats in the goat pen. Although Ali thought it would be impossible, they get along just fine!
