They are so beautiful.
Lovely girls. You’re so lucky!
Wonderful portraits and history of your mares.
Question: Are mare more treasured there? And are geldings typical? Or are males kept intact instead?
~Lisa
lovely to officially meet them!
So pretty! Weird question, but are barbs always bay in color?
@Lisa: All males - except for the one the sultan rides - are kept intact. Mares are common in the bush, for breeding and travelling, but when it comes to racing, people used to believe that only males could race. It is Arwen who has proved them wrong, and these days, she is back at the track, beating male champions during training heats.
@Pony Girl: Grey is actually the most common colour, but bay is my favourite so I keep to those!
That top photo is great!
They’re beauties! And clearly love having their photos taken! The show offs!
What pretty girls. You caught them at their most alert, too.
Bay is my favorite color for a horse too and your horses are gorgeous. I love their beautiful names. We raise Boer goats and the breed originally comes from Africa. When we first started raising them I wanted to give them names that was from Africa, but I could not think of very many so we just started naming them for their color or personality. Too bad I didn’t know you back then!
I figured it was just that the background was so big they looked small, but put beside the ones I’m used to seeing that weigh in at 1000 pounds or more they really are pretty small. And I’d guess they’re probably 2 to 4 hands shorter as well. I guess that gives them an advantage over the larger ones in that kind of country though. They must be really nimble. I’d think they’d have to be.
They’re beautiful though, no matter their size.
