I, too, have just gotten a high-speed internet connection, and so I was finally able to watch the documentary. It was really good. The numbers of starving people (let alone that there were any starving people) that the reporters and Jan Egelund gave were so ridiculous it was laughable.

I have all but stopped watching television news completely. It’s so obvious they are just beside themselves whenever they glom onto to something they can blow completely out of proportion. The media coverage of swine flue in the US is a perfect example. It makes it sound as if we’re all walking around wearing masks and people are dropping dead in the streets.

I am just catching up on you posts this week. I have only been in one sandstorm and it was much like being in a winter blizzard here in Canada. Snow doesn’t sting your eyes as much though. The documentary really deserved the recogition it received.

Congratulations! I’ve watched the documentary and can say that it certainly deserves recognition as it not only explores the true conditions in Niger, but also the mentality and intentions of the reporting middleman. I posted a long comment on the post with the youtube links, but for some reason it never showed up, so hopefully this one works.
