With only eleven days left until departure (if you include this day…), Niger is never far from my mind.

Unsurprisingly, the thing I’ve missed the most this season has been Sheba, my lovely Rhodesian ridgeback girl from Sweden.

Being so used to having her around,

…it’s almost impossible to imagine that it’s just been a year and a day since I met her at Ridgebow’s kennel for the first time!

Some relationships just feel as if they’ve been going on forever,

…and my bond with Sheba is one of those.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so “in sync” with a dog before,

…and after a year with Sheba, I fully understand what ridgeback owners say about “once you’ve gone Ridgeback, you will never go back again!”

So my longing this week is to wrap my arms around my beautiful Shebes again! Thankfully, it won’t be long anymore and the days ahead will be spent packing and preparing for a long voyage.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackShe’s a most special, loving, and intelligent girl. No wonder you miss her. And you haven’t even met her babies yet! This should be quite a reunion.
Sheba’s personality just shines through in the last shot of her. I know it will be a very joyful reunion - and exciting to meet all the kids too.
That last shot is enough to melt anyone! I would have a lot of trouble leaving my animals for that length of time. At least it won’t be long now, and I am sure Sheba wonders where you are…the horses and other dogs too.
Sheba is a glorious beast and I, for one, have thoroughly enjoyed reading about her escapades and now her new adventures as a mommy. She’s a beauty!
Beautiful post and beautiful photos. And I just read the first comment which says that Sheba has puppies! She’s adorable and I know they will be too. (Can we see photos of them too…?)
Esther: You certainly have such a beautiful dog.
I’m sure she will be glad to see you, too.
What a lovely post for a lovely companion. I think you were meant for each other.
I’m looking forward to seeing the photographic evidence of your rapturous reunion. I bet she’s going to be so proud to show you her puppies!
Sheba’s eyes and her pensive look show her intelligence. What a great Mom she has been! I’m sure she’ll be as glad to see you as you are to see her.
I’d also like to see photos of your reunion with your girl Sheba. What a joyous moment that will be. She’s a very special dog.
The separation, i am sure, has been harder for her than for you since she does not know when and if you will be back. I have watched my daugter’s Border Collie pine and go off her food while her mistress launches into the wide world to teach, and only comes alive again on her return.
Enjoy your homeland while you are there, it is all a strange harmony of contrasts between Africa and Europe.
Sheba is just gorgeous. Those eyes! No wonder you miss her.
The time will fly and you’ll soon be back with that Sheba girl, and her adorable 7. She sure is a beauty.
So well written… your yearning for Sheba so well described. Hope you join her soon and have a great time with her again.
I bet you know that it´s only 10 days now! If the last photo doesn´t win someone over then what will?
What a welcome home party you will enjoy. Horses, Sheba, friends, family - and SEVEN PUPPIES! I am enjoying your return countdown.
What an incredibly handsome dog and so graceful. I’m in love.
I can understand very well that you missed your Sheba! She is gorgeous and very friendly by the look of it! Thanks for sharing these photos!

Incredible looking dog! Er.. not bad yourself. Hope you enjoy your remaining days to the fullest!
So true….Ridgebacks just have something special! I also have a bond with Nala that I never imagined having with a dog but she is my sweetie pie and when I am at home she is always by my side.
Glad you are returning very soon to be with your sweet Sheba!
Awww.w..beautiful shots. Got me missing my fave dog. I really hope you’d get reunited soon enough.
My world is up here.
