SETTING: Eden Street, early morning. A young Azawakh pup is lying in the street, awaiting the arrival of his friend Sheba the Rhodesian ridgeback.

SHEBA: Hey Snow, what are you up to?
SNOW: Nothing much.

SHEBA: Well, I’m here now. Want to play?
SNOW: Not sure. I might need to do some stretching first.

SHEBA: Stretching? Who needs to stretch in order to play?? You look like a sphinx down there.

SHEBA: Very well then, let’s both be sphinxes then.

SHEBA: Then again, my teeth are itching.
SNOW: Uhm. Mine too…

SHEBA [jumps up]: No Snow, this won’t do. We only have about a minute to play before I have to follow my human to work. Come on, let’s play!

[Snow gets up and shakes his fur]
SHEBA [disappointed]: What’s wrong with you, Snow? You’re not your usual self. Didn’t you wash your face before you went out to play???

SNOW [charges]: Very well! How’s this for wrestling?
SHEBA [smiling]: Much better!

SHEBA [rolls over on purpose]: You’ve improved your moves since last time, Snow! Well done!

SHEBA: Uhm, maybe you practiced a little too well, huh?

SHEBA: Oh well, let’s see if you have any ridegback moves in you!

[Snow charges but goes for the throat]
SHEBA [loudly]: Hey, watch out Snow! That’s foul play!

SHEBA: Snow, I’m telling you, stop it! This is no fun, you’re being vicious!

SHEBA: OK, very well then! If you won’t listen, I’ll just have to make you stop, now won’t I? [Sheba takes a good grip of Snow's neck and forces him to the ground. The wrestling game comes to a brief end]

SHEBA: See? I told you viciousness was no fun.

SHEBA: But hey, life goes on. Ready for some fair RR wrestling now?
SNOW [happily]: Sure thing!

SHEBA: OK then! Here’s how it goes, you do the same movements as if you’re serious, except they’re slower, and visibly friendly!

SHEBA: Yes, Snow! Now you’re wrestling like a ridgeback!

SHEBA: See how much fun that is? Now we race all the way to the office, so my human won’t be upset about me being late!

SNOW [happily]: Sheba, you’re running with me! Now YOU are being an Azawakh!
SHEBA: Sure thing! Azawakhs or Ridgebacks, we’re both African breeds!

[Both dogs arrive at the office gate at the same time as Sheba's human]
SHEBA’S HUMAN: This is where the fun ends for you, Snow.
SNOW: But I would love to go inside! The Eden Office seems like so much doggy fun!
SHEBA: Uhm, Baghera and Kinza are professional guard dogs. They have little dogs like you for breakfast. You have no idea what you’re wishing for, young friend! Don’t worry, I’ll see you around soon enough. My human will be going home for siesta, and if I know you’re waiting for me on the street, I’ll join her for the pause so that we can resume our play.

SNOW [backs away reluctantly]: Very well… See you soon then, Shebes!
SHEBA: Sure thing!

I’m looking forward to The Book…and then The Movie. Sheba has such gusto for life!
They were so intensely interested in each other but it was that yellow shirted spectator that was so unexpected that I remembered her the most.
I could almost see the little word balloons over their heads reading this. Such fun!
Such a great story of Sheba and Snow. How fun to be a dog in Eden. Great post Esther. I look forward to Act II.
Love watching dog’s body language as they negotiate things. We could learn a lot from them.
