For the past two weeks, we’ve been enjoying the visit of Eden’s chairman of the board Staffan Göranson and his wife Inger.

Having not been to Niger since Eden’s early stages twenty years ago, there was a lot to catch up on!

One of our first outings was a visit to Zinder’s market.

It’s an obligatory stop and a perfect starter for stepping into the African world, full of sounds, sights and smell.

Even though it was Thursday - the official market day - the market was far from crowded. During hot season, Niger wakes up at dawn, but as soon winter times set in, 10 am is still considered “early”…

At the end of the day, we bought flip-flops,

…tissue,

…and fruit!

We also investigated the furniture department,

…the oil department,

…and the bird department. Although I find guinea fowls frustrating as they make a racket all through the night, they are beautiful to look at!

This little guy was seen playing video games at the market, and after Inger had taken one picture of him, he followed us diligently throughout their visit, hoping they would take another shot.

Later in the afternoon, we took a walk down Eden Street. Their two week long visit starting slow, making sure to enjoying all the little sights and sounds that make Africa the unique place that it is. Later in the week, we drove up to the field station and visited a farmer in the heart of Edenland; had brunch in the Baobab forest of Mirriay and took long work-related rides in the Zinder bush - amongst others! All of which will be portrayed in later posts!
In the meantime, have a look at what other people are showing from their worlds today!

What a wonderful market - the markets are one thing I really miss about China. The supermarket is just so boring in comparison!
Great farmer’s market. And really fun to see the little boy playing video games.
The visiting couple must enjoy seeing all the changes that have taken place in 20 years.
Esther…I especially love that last shot. The market looked busy to me. I’m sure your guests are enjoying the sites.
I really like your tour thru the market - you have a wonderufl way of making us feel like we were there. Thanks for sharing.
You always share such beautiful and interesting parts of your world, Esther, and today’s is a perfect example!! I love them all, love markets — I, too, did my favorite market today! Love the camel!
Have a great week!

Wonderful tour again this week. You always have so many interesting sights to show us!
I think anywhere in the world the best place to take a visiting friend or tourist is the market place.
Love the tour.
Loved to walk along through the Market, Esther! There are so many interesting sights. I look forward to your next tour! I like the picture of you taking a picture.
It is always wonderful to visit your world. Thank you!
Have to say that your Market tours are my most favorite (OK - Sheba wipes the floor with everyone, but …). Today, my favorite is video boy. Hope they granted his wish and took another pic!
Always nice to see these pictures, make me think back at our voyage to Mali.
