Last weekend, we decided to try the Sunday Brunch over at the Lyafa restaurant, which is situated at an easy walking distance, two blocks from Eden street.

The food was good, starting with the salads…

…and then moving on to the warm dishes.

Guinea fowl casserole with fried plantains and garlic-fried potatoes. Yummy! It’s always a treat when […]

Where were you, twenty years ago?

This very day, twenty years ago, I was visiting the field station with my family to see the development of the new mud buildings that Eden was setting up in Dalli, 13 km south of Tanout city.

Posted in April 23rd, 2008
by Esther Garvi in Favourite posts, Healthy living, Nigerien culture & traditions, Solar cooker recipe, Things you want to know about Niger

Famine food is supposed to refer to food that is consumed in times of great need and which can act as a indication of famine or extreme difficulties, but more often than not, famine food is a derogative expression for local food in remote places that rest of the world knows little or nothing about. NRK & Sølvguttene

Posted in March 2nd, 2008

After Akershus, my dad’s friend took us to NRK, where he works. The primary reason however was not touristic, but to continue tracing my Norwegian roots.

Having logged in as official visitors, we stepped into the studio where my dad went twice a week as a child, singing for the boy choir Sølvguttene.

There were lots of […]

I had a great day today and saw lots of Oslo, but it was far from your average tourist excursion.

I can always see Holmenkollen close up at a future time, but I wanted to catch up on my roots and wanted to see the places where my dad grew up and the places I […]
