The picture of the day this week is none other than a photo of Isolde saying hi to Tabita for the first time! Isolde loves people, and people just love her! Right now, Tabita’s games are all centered around “Arwen the horse” and “Isolde the foal” and Isolde is happy to have so many people […]

Today is Anette’s birthday, and so what better than to post some Isolde highlights from her first week in life? Here is a post for all horse-lovers!
DAY ZERO: Arwen hasn’t more than come back from her afternoon walk when she starts foaling. Ali heads out to inform Anette, who arrives 12 minutes later to a […]

Arwen foaled yesterday! It’s was a perfect delivery with everything going by the book. Anette had the ungrateful task of keeping Arwen from stepping on her own placenta before it had been complete expelled, but that disagreing part will quickly be forgotten when the result is a perfect little filly with beautiful lines!
Arwen is the […]

Anette texted me 3 hours ago to say that Arwen had just foaled! I’ve been on the phone ever since: a huge thanks to skype for making it possible to be in touch for a long time without risking financial ruin!
Although none of us expected Arwen to foal in day time and absolutely not in […]

Someone is getting ready for delivery… 10½ months right now so it could be just about any day!
Seems like Junior is leaning to the side…
But whenever he decides to pop out, there will be milk waiting for it!

Arwen cutting the lawn at the Eden office…
…with a belly that is growing sideways!
The latest changes is that Arwen & Sahara was now buddies and do everything together again.
Even drinking from the same water bowl…

As much as I love to ride, I also love to see the joy on the horses when they are let lose in an open terrain (more precisely, my brother’s garden!).
With Sahara being as dominant as she is, she’ll want Arwen to follow cue, and so a lot of her efforts concentrate on getting her […]

Remember Maya, Sahara’s younger sister?
Today, our horses got a visitor, a two year old filly from the bush who happened to be none other than Sahara’s younger sister.
January 4th 2008
She was a bit underdeveloped when she came in from the bush (looking more like a foal than a two-year-old filly!), but has been doing a […]

An expat friend wanted to see the Zinder race track, and so I offered to bring him there on horse. As Arwen is heavily pregnant and Sahara was still limping slightly, Ali brought over Maya and Freya from Gill’s concession and the four of us headed out on a very pleasant excursion.
The track was vast […]

I’m always talking about heading into the bush but rarely show any pictures, so I thought I would rectify that this time and introduce you to the beautiful Zinder trails! First up is the trail to the village of Kasheni - a favourite of Sahara’s!
Sahara heading for the village of Kasheni at a fast walk […]

So I am one of those rare people who get to bring my own horses to work! With the rainy season in full bloom now, there is so much grass growing - and what better solution to cut the lawn but to bring over two very eager grass-loving horses?
Lol, that picture almost looks like Sweden! […]

Weekends for me mean an obligatory horse back ride in to the Nigerien bush!
Last week, my sister and I had one of our greatest rides ever, and how fortunate then that I decided to bring the camera!
Riding out of Zinder only takes a moment (10 minutes)
Having crossed the main road, most of the buildings between […]

The garden is starting to get green right now; at least the part the part that is protected from the horses!
Every morning when I come out, the girls are waiting for me, eagerly expecting their fair share of green (weeds)!
And who can say no to a sweetheart like Arwen when she’s looking like this?
It takes […]

Being sick after the 4 days at the field station, we brought the horses over to Josef & Renate’s garden, where rumors had it that the green grass had started to grow.
The horses were thrilled and wasted no seconds throwing themselves on the Nigerien grass buffet table!
Future Armani danGodiya (assuming it’s a boy, of course!) […]

For those of you who were around during the days of Isthar News, you probably remember how both Anette and I spent months waiting in vain for a foal in Arwen’s belly that wasn’t there… So for this year’s foaling issues, I’ve was really reserved at first, but once Arwen’s belly started to grow for […]
