Battling piroplasmosis

Posted in June 28th, 2008
by Esther Garvi in Life as a volunteer

If I knew about a book called “Where there is no vet”, I would buy it immediately, because the more you know how to do yourself in Niger, the better.
After three days of not eating, I knew something was seriously ill with Aslan, and so I called up our family vet (who’s in Niamey for […]

Fresh debate in Norway relating to the Niger 2004-05 famine scam

Posted in May 4th, 2008
by Esther Garvi in Aid politics, In the media, Ishtar thoughts

Thinking it was a bee (we have a bee nest in […]

I just read a post today about a journalist in Uganda who was coerced into paying a woman she had interviewed for an article although she felt it went against journalistic work ethics. At first she was reluctant, but her Ugandan colleague seemed to have valid point: “”You’re going to get […]

Heartbroken

Posted in May 9th, 2007

I am heartbroken.
We were informed last night that my mother’s cancer has returned, and what seemed to be a somewhat stable situation has been shredded to pieces in a fortnight.
Tears are flowing constantly, but I do not expect them to stop. I love my mother so much.
I lift my head high and seek the Lord, […]
