A melon is a very interesting object.
You can hug it, if you like.
You can lick it.
You can try to grab it with your front teeth, although it should be noted for the record, that this is not an easy skill to possess.
Should you fail at the above, you can always chew on it.
This is bound to boost your confidence in the Art of Handling a Melon.
After that, it’s all fun!
You can play catch with the melon,
…and you can throw it back at whoever threw it for you.
You can attack the melon,
…make sure it does not elude you,
…and when you want it to escape again, you can bring it back to your human,
so that you can attack it all over again!
Although you could technically bring it back to your human endless amount of times,
…presenting it proudly, preferably like this (and remember to get caught on camera with all four feet in the air, that is a fabulous RR skill to posess!)-
…you can also pick it up and run away with it!
Should your human suddenly wonder why you didn’t want to play chase with the Melon anymore, just tell her the Melon went silent and that you didn’t feel like bouncing after it anymore. But don’t except her to understand; after all, it’s a Rhodesian Ridgeback thing, and we are such an exclusive breed. Just look back at her with the Simple (Steady) Gaze (very unlike what you just portraid five minutes ago) and make sure to look gorgeous. She will play with you the next time you’re up to it, I promise.
Oh, and if you remember, try to keep your ear down. Humans tend to take you more seriously when you do.

Puppy antics are so much fun to watch. Great you could catch them in pictures. Loved the one with all four feet off the ground.

Oh Esther, I felt as if I was in the yard with you playing [melon] catch with Sheba. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DOG! And so clever. Thanks for sharing this play. Hugs Jo
So cute! Sheba makes me want to belong to a RR myself which, I think, would not sit well with the two cats I already belong to!
Sheba is having such a great time with that melon!
Who needs expensive dog toys!! I love the last shot of her with her ear up.

Esther: I wonder what would have happened if Sheba bit into the melon.
I loved this series of photos (I’m a dog person can’t help it). Enjoyed your blog and congratulate you on your mission.
