Finally, some pictures of Sheba’s puppies that started arriving this morning!

This was my father’s first whelping and they all did marvelously!

Although still so young, Sheba was a terrific mother and the puppies were so sweet!

The ordeal lasted the entire day and I had my dad on wireless skype for most parts. It was amazing to be there and listen to everything as it happened live - even though I was 8000 km away.

I cannot even tell you how much I missed my little darling, wanting to be with her this very moment.

Seeing her tender snout as she watched over her newborns did not make me miss her any less!

One of my favourite pictures, with Sheba going: “Excuse me, but where are you going with my puppy?”

“Now that’s more like it!”

There were eleven puppies all in all, of which seven survived: three males and four females. Two of the stillborn had a lot of water in their lungs, but impossible to revive them. For Sheba’s sake however, I am glad that the litter is not too large.

The puppies were quite even in size (even the ones that didn’t make it), weighing between 315 and 480 grams.

By the end of the day, Sheba was very tired and when it was finally over, she lay down to rest.

Happy sleeping, Shebes! If only you knew how much I missed you!!

Sheba is a wonderful mother and deserves a rest. I know how much you must have missed being there. Glad your Dad and Skypes could help. The pups are adorable. Will you keep them all for Eden?
Nämen kolla! Grattis valpmamma!! Sju är väl ändå ett ganska bra antal, mot vad du förfarade. Hoppas allt går bra med valparna.

Förresten, önskas namnförslag?
Hooray Sheba!

So adorable!! Congratulations Sheba!! Esther, does this make you a Grandma?? lol
All sweetness.
I didn’t read your blog yesterday, and I was checking Facebook and there I got the big surprise that Sheba had puppies!! That is so exciting! She suddenly has to be a mature mother caring for 7 little ones! You can do it, Sheba. Sounds like your dad did a fantastic job, Esther. Wow, those puppies will be 2 months old when you see them in person. But I’m sure Renate will keep you posted with lots of pix. Congratulations.
Now you have to come up with seven cool African names for the puppies.
I just love the picture of here watching as her little one is being weighed. Sheba is such an amazing dog. She looks like she will be great at mothering.
Vilka sötnosar!

Awww proud mum, they’re gorgeous Esther
Congratulations to the new mom!
Oh they are beautiful….congratulations and well done Esthers dad!! Bet you can’t wait to back and see them all now.
Well old Baghera turned out to be a real Houdini didn’t he? I remember whelping Tonka’s litter — and his mom was not quite so gentle! But we had all 8 survive, including one I had to revive.
I still remember the little eraser feet just like these… and the flat little faces waiting to grow noses.
Thanks for taking me back Esther. It’s a cool memory.
(Tonka says he doesn’t remember, but he’ll take my word for it.)
Congratulations to Sheba and Baghera! (And your dad, whom I’m sure is glad that’s over with!)
Good job Sheba and Dad. I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you in Sweden. Looks like all is well! Hopefully there will be many more pictures.
What beautiful puppies. Sheba did a great job, and I’m sure she’ll be a fine mother.
Big smile on my face here! These photos really play a magical tune on the heartstrings! Sheba looks such a proud Mum and seems glad of all the support from your Dad! Congrats to all!
Fabulous post, Esther! Congratulations to Sheba and to you. You both must feel so proud.
Congratulations, they are just gorgeous! And Sheba is such a lovely mother. The puppies have the same colour as my Charlie had, will it change?
The pups are so cute and Sheba’s facial expressions say it all! Sheba is a beautiful lady and she’s going to be a great mom!

Absolute cuteness! Seven! Wow, that’s still a lot! And they’re not that much smaller from Elza when she was 7 weeks old and came to my home. They have cute little faces and Sheba looks so happy in the “that’s more like it” photo
Congratulations! Another lesson this week on motherhood! The robins nesting on my porch and in my trees are teaching me lessons every day!
Wonderful to see mother and pups happy & healthy!

Oh Esther, this is the sweetest post - I LOVE the one of your dad with wireless skype keeping you IN on everything. Oh how precious. I’m pleased Sheba doesn’t have too many pups. Well done to her and your dad. I suppose Renate was taking the photos. Oh I cannot stop saying how cute. TOOOO gorgeous. this must be the best post I’ve ever read. Hugs and more hugs for all in the doggy nursery and for you there in Sweden. Jo from South Africa xxx
This post brightened up a gray day! I’m not surprised she looked tired at the end of the day. Looking forward to lots more puppy pics.

How exciting! You must be dying to get back to see Sheba and the babies. How many will you keep? I’m longing for a puppy, but I think that getting one from Africa might be a bit too far. Congratulations to you and Sheba! She looks like she’s a good mama.
Those are great pictures. As exciting as if you were in the hospital capturing pictures of a human. You did a fab job on capturing all of the important moments and those pictures had a heartbeat. So sorry to hear about the still borns. http://reesspace.blogspot.com/2009/07/camera-critters-buddies.html
